Dr. John Farris teaches product design at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The classes are built around semester long design projects performed for local industrial sponsors.  His students have done work for Bissell, Whirlpool, Terratrike and Inrad.  Projects have ranged from soft tissue biopsy devices to wheel chair restraint systems for buses.
